It’s hard to believe that the holidays are already here, it seems like January was just yesterday. I don’t know about you, but I went all out on New Year’s resolutions for 2023. I had so many great goals and I accomplished a lot of them.

For 2024, some of my biggest goals are to be more consistent with my writing, practice more self-care, and save more money. Have you thought about your resolutions for 2024 yet?

Some of the most common New Year’s resolutions include spending more time with family, traveling more, saving more money, and reducing stress. A lot of these have been on my resolution lists before, and the way I accomplished most of them was with my side hustles.

This list is my top 10 side hustles to help you crush your goals for 2024!

1. Freelancing

Freelancing absolutely tops my list for this one! Not just because it can help you earn extra money, but because it’s flexible and has unlimited earning potential. If you put enough effort into freelancing, it can become your full-time income rather than just a side hustle.

There are a lot of freelancing opportunities, and there is more than likely something you can do with the skills you already have. Some of the most popular freelancing fields include:

  • Writing
  • Photography
  • Programming
  • Virtual Assistant
  • Data entry
  • Graphic design

2. Crafting

Do you like creating things with skills like crocheting, woodwork, candle making, knitting, or sewing? Consider selling some of the things you make!

Marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, and eBay are great places to sell handmade crafts.  You can even find vendor events near your area to sell your crafts too!

3. Ridesharing

If you have access to a car you try doing a ridesharing program. Programs like Uber, Lyft, and Gridwise allow you to make extra cash by giving rides to their customers. You earn a base rate for each trip you accept along with any tips the customer gives you.

It’s important to remember that these apps require you to take care of your own gas and maintenance and maintain valid insurance for your vehicle. Consider these costs when deciding if ridesharing is a profitable option. If you live in a busier area these costs could be worth the amount of money you would make, and smaller less busy areas may not be worth the effort.

4. Tutoring

Were you always good at math in school? Or are you a grammatical perfectionist? Maybe science is like second nature to you.

You can make some serious money by spending some of your spare time to help a student with their homework. Many online platforms are looking for tutors for virtual tutors. These online options allow you can set your own workload, hours, and schedule.

5. Food Delivery

Like ridesharing, this option allows you to use your vehicle to make extra money in your spare time. Apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub allow users to order from restaurants and have it delivered directly to their door. As a driver you get a base rate for the delivery you accept and whatever tips the customer gives you.

As a DoorDash driver myself, I will say that sometimes it’s difficult to tell if dashing will actually be worth the effort. It takes some practice to maximize your earning potential, especially with today’s economy and the fees that Doordash adds to customer orders.

6. E-Commerce

This is a great option to start an online business with low start-up costs and is easily scalable. Platforms like Shopify, Amazon Marketplace, Etsy, and more make starting an e-commerce shop easy.

Signing up with a partner like Printify allows you to sell print-on-demand products like t-shirts, journals, bags, canvases, and more. Dropshipping is another option from partners like Aliexpress, Alibaba, and Doba allows you to pick which products you want to feature in your store and handles shipping for you.

7. Renting Out Property

There are so many apps available now that will allow you to rent out an extra room, a house, or even an extra vehicle. Some apps and websites will even let you rent out extra storage space in your garage or storage shed.

Most apps have basic requirements for renters to meet before they can book a property. Most platforms offer hosts some form of protection against property damage. You are reimbursed for any damaged property or missing belongings. However, each platform has exceptions that they won’t cover as well.

8. Personal Shopper

Similar to food delivery, apps like Instacart and DoorDash allow you to accept grocery and convenience store orders and deliver them to customers. For these apps, you accept orders and go into the store where you will shop for the customers based on their list of items. They also list backup items in case the store is out of the item originally ordered.

You are paid a base rate determined by many factors including, the size of the order, delivery distance, and cost of the order. You are also compensated by tips left by your customer.

9. Blogging

This is one of the most versatile side hustles out there. You can make money blogging by:

  • Running ads on your pages
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Subscriber content
  • Sponsored posts
  • Digital products
  • Donations

It’s easy to set up a basic blog with sites like WordPress, Wix, or BlogSpot. Then connect your blog to Google Adsense to start running ads and making money. Keep in mind, unless your blog gets 10s of thousands of visitors per day, you won’t make much from ads.

10. Podcasting

Starting a podcast can be a profitable venture if done correctly. You can make money on podcasts in a lot of similar ways to blogging such as ads, subscribers, sponsors, and donations. There are several platforms that can host your podcasts like Buzsprout, and Spotify.
